It seems that a one-time Celtic transfer target is set to move to Rangers. Sky Sports are reporting that the Ibrox side are ‘closing in’ on signing the Manchester City winger Brandon Barker.
Celtic were linked with a move for the player earlier this summer. The Daily Mail reported that Neil Lennon was keen to reunite with a player he had on loan at Hibernian.
However, it seems that the player has decided to move to Ibrox. Lennon might be a fan of the player. However, it is unlikely that anyone at Celtic will be losing any sleep of the failure to sign Barker.
Would find it difficult to get into Hoops team
There is no doubt that on his day Barker can be a decent player. But the question has to be asked, would he currently get into the Celtic side?
At the moment, the answer would most likely be ‘no’. Barker is a left-winger. The Hoops have Mikey Johnston, who has been in great form this season, and Lewis Morgan, who has featured regularly this season so far, who can play there.
Hoops need to sign first-team regulars
Daniel Arzani, who has been out of action with a long-term injury, can also play there. Barker would more than likely have been a squad player for the Hoops. There are too many of them at the club at the moment.
What Celtic need to buy is players that will go right into the first-team. At the moment, Barker most likely doesn’t come into that category.
