Celtic's 'leaked transfer document': Where are they now?

Celtic were up in arms when a document listing potential transfers was leaked last summer.

Despite its seriousness, fans were intrigued to see who the Hoops were going for. But, now a transfer window on, where are the Celts who could have been?

Mixed pack of players in Celtic transfer document

James Justin – Luton Town to Leicester City

Unsurprisingly, Justin joined Lee Congerton and Brendan Rodgers at Leicester in July. This surely proves that Justin had been a target under Congerton’s tenure in charge of transfers.

Justin only has three appearances in the English Premier League under his belt this season, though.

Tommy Smith – Huddersfield Town to Stoke City

The former Manchester City youth didn’t end up with Congerton and Rodgers like Justin. Instead, the 27-year-old right back joined Stoke where he has made 10 league appearances this season.

The Hoops aren’t bothered as they managed to sign Jeremie Frimpong and Hatem Abd Elhamed.

Zanka – Huddersfield to Fenerbahce

Another Huddersfield man the Bhoys didn’t sign went to Turkey on a £1.8 million deal in August. Real name Mathias Jorgensen, the centre-back is a starter for Fenerbahce, making 16 league appearances and scoring two.

This one is a potential big blow considering the price and the subsequent performances.

Fikayo Tomori – Chelsea

The centre-back was on loan at Derby County from the Blues when the document was revealed.

However, the 22-year-old still remains at the London club where he has made 14 league appearances this season. With Chelsea’s transfer embargo, Tomori was always going to get a chance to prove his worth.

Romain Perraud – Paris FC to Stade Brest

The French full-back revealed that a move to the Hoops just couldn’t get over the line.

Perraud remained in his homeland and signed for Brest who offered a good vision for the future. The left-back has made 12 appearances this season in Ligue 1 and two in the league cup.

Joe Aribo – Charlton Athletic to Rangers

Hoops fans look away now, as Aribo ended up joining bitter rivals Rangers in the summer.

Despite the uproar from down south, Aribo has hardly set the heather on fire in Glasgow so far. However, the nine goal contributions in 17 appearances do look good on paper for the 23-year-old.

Rakeem Harper – West Bromwich Albion

Harper hasn’t really got going this season and doesn’t appear to be one lost for Celtic. He has only made one appearance for the Baggies this season with a couple more coming in the cups.

His contract was renewed though in the summer following the leaked document’s release.

Brandon Barker – Manchester City to Rangers

Barker has become a squad player for Steven Gerrard’s side making five appearances and scoring once. Everyone could see from his time at Hibs on loan that he would never be a starter in Glasgow.

Neal Maupay – Brentford to Brighton and Hove Albion

This is one man who Celtic fans would definitely have wanted in the first team on reflection. The Brighton hitman is doing well for the Seagulls, scoring seven goals in 21 games with one assist.

However, the fee of just under £20 million meant that the move was a non-starter for the Celts.

Lys Mousset – Bournemouth to Sheffield United

Similarly, Mousset is another man performing well for one of the smaller EPL clubs. The Frenchman has scored eight goals in 18 matches with three assists for the Blades.

However, Mousset was more in the Hoops’ transfer range as he joined United for a little below £10 million.
