Celtic's transfer plans get underway as club aims to tie down key stars on fresh terms
Celtic’s winter transfer plans look to be getting underway, with reports stating that Ange Postecoglou is looking to tie two key assets down to new deals.
The Celtic boss has hinted that the club have been working away behind the scenes in preparation for the up-and-coming January window.
The Bhoys have already been linked with their first winter addition. Reports earlier this week suggested that talks were taking place regarding a potential move for Vissel Kobe central defender Yuki Kobayashi.
Ahead of the club’s match against Real Madrid, Ange Postecoglou delivered his first response to those early transfer links. As expected, the former Socceroos boss wasn’t giving much away regarding the club’s interest in specific players, such as Kobayashi.
However, the 57-year-old did state that the Hoops transfer plans for January have been in place for a while now, and Postecoglou will be looking to conclude his business early once again.
He joked: [Celtic FC]: “We’ve gone early on the January market, haven’t we? It’s just into November, so I’ve got a lot of talking about that.
“As I’ve said before, we’ve got a strategy in place, which I’m really comfortable with. In terms of making sure we’re always looking to improve our squad, looking to improve the way we do things.
“We take away the experiences we’ve had at Champions League, at domestic level, and how can we be better? And every window gives you that opportunity.
“So we’ve had some plans in place for January for a while now, and hopefully, over the next few weeks, we’ll be able to conclude some of that. The whole idea is to make this squad stronger for the second half of the year and beyond.”
Celtic’s transfer plans go further than just additions.
Although most of the recruitment teams’ focus at Parkhead will be going into new additions over the next few months, there also appears to be plans in place to tie down key assets to new contracts.
According to a report from Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas, the club is talking with the agents of attacking duo Liel Abada and Giorgos Giakoumakis after their brilliant start to the new season.
Both players have been regular features for Ange Postecoglou’s side since their arrival last summer, and they have contributed to a combined total of 62 goals.
Their performances as part of this Celtic squad have led to inevitable interest from clubs across the globe, including the English Premier League.
However, club officials appear to be moving to shut down that interest by tying two of our key assets down to new contracts in Glasgow.
Whilst the pair are currently already under contract until 2026, the Sky Sports report states that the club believe they can be an integral part of the squad for years to come and that new terms until 2027 will put off potential suitors.
It is great to see those behind-the-scenes at Celtic Park take these steps to improve the terms of two key forwards in Ange Postecoglou’s squad.
For some, it shows the improvements we are continuing to make on the recruitment side of things under the ex-Yokohama F Marinos manager.
Although there is a huge focus on the present, there are also plans being put in place to look to the future, making sure the squad is in the best shape possible to compete.
Here’s hoping we can continue to see some movement on the recruitment side of things, whether that is new addition or contracts for current members of the squad.
It is bound to be a busy few weeks and months ahead as Celtic’s plans for the January window get underway!
