As a former Norwich City and Celtic striker, who regularly provides punditry on both teams, Chris Sutton is in a unique position to offer their opinion on a potential move for Adam Idah.
Reports on Tuesday night indicate that the Bhoys are ‘closing in’ on a deal for the Norwich forward, who also stars for the Republic of Ireland national team.
Many Celtic fans will never have seen Idah play, so will rely on the expert view of others. Sutton has had his say tonight but, concerningly, he doesn’t sound too enamoured with the report.

Writing on social media site X, the pundit said: “If this is true I’m not sure with the greatest respect it’s an upgrade on Oh.
“Idah needs to get away from Norwich and has potential but has had potential for years but he’s 100% in the development category and a long way from the finished article.”
If Idah isn’t considered an upgrade on Oh, then signing him really will raise eyebrows considering that Brendan Rodgers has stated he wants to add real quality to the squad, rather than simply add bodies.
Yes, Oh is at the Asian Cup and won’t return until mid-February, but Celtic still need to take a long-term view with signings.
Many fans want the club to show more ambition in the transfer market and bring in a calibre of player who can challenge starters, not someone who will be the third-best option in a given position.
As always, if signed, Idah will be judged on what he does at Celtic rather than what he’s done elsewhere. Sutton notes he has potential so hopefully that’s something Rodgers feels he can unlock.
