Outspoken former Celtic striker turned pundit Chris Sutton has once more been forthright in his opinions. This time, it is regarding the valuation of Hoops left-back Kieran Tierney.
The Hoops legend took to social media to opine that he hopes Celtic get a similar fee to the £50 million that Crystal Palace are set to receive from Manchester United for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
“Every bit as good”
Sutton believes that Tierney is ‘every bit as good’ as the soon to be Manchester United player.
So far, Arsenal are the only side to express an interest in Tierney. The London side reportedly set to make a bid of £19 million for the player.
That will be turned down by Celtic, who will be looking for more money than that. However, the chances Celtic getting £50 million for Tierney are slim to none.
Playing in Scotland will affect price
The reason for that? He is playing in Scotland. No matter how well Tierney has played for the Hoops in Europe, teams will see Scotland as a weak league and will adjust their amount accordingly.
Now, if Tierney was playing in England, there is no doubt he would be worth a lot more. But should he leave Celtic, perhaps the best amount the club could hope to receive is £25-30 million.
That would still be an incredible sum of money, more than the Hoops have received for a player in their history.
