Chris Sutton believes that it won’t be long before Odsonne Edouard follows Moussa Dembele’s path and earn a big money move away from Celtic.
Edouard has started the season in excellent form, and has also started to score goals for France’s under-21 side.
Sutton thinks these goalscoring feats will attract the attention of clubs who will be willing to pay similar to the £19.7 million Celtic received for Dembele from Lyon last year.
“Edouard has followed Moussa Dembele’s path by sparking at Parkhead and going into the France Under-21 set-up to do the same” Sutton said, as reported by the Daily Record.
“The real deal”
“Dembele ended up heading out of the door for big money and Edouard is going to be doing the same very soon. He really is developing into the real deal.”
Sutton’s comments won’t come as any great shock to the Celtic support. It is not realistic to expect Edouard to stay at Celtic for years to come.
However, perhaps he will be persuaded to stay for another season if he can play in the Champions League for the Hoops.
May want to make impact in Champions League
Dembele won his big money move after some excellent displays in the Champions League group stages. So far, Edouard has only made two group stage appearances for the Hoops, playing a total of 37 minutes.
He would no doubt like to improve on that before moving on. Any interested clubs may also like to see Edouard shine in the biggest club competition in European football.
There is no doubt that Edouard will be moving on from Celtic sooner rather than later. That is the nature of football these days.
However, perhaps it won’t be as soon as Sutton believes. If Celtic can manage to get another two seasons out of Edouard, it would be a bonus for the club. That may depend on Champions League group stage qualification next season though.
