Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor won’t be leaving the club ahead of a ten-in-a-row push next season, he’s confirmed to The Daily Record this week.

The tireless Scotland international was Neil Lennon’s go-to man throughout 2019/20, playing more minutes than anyone else in the entire Celtic squad (Transfermarkt).

Scoring an impressive 13 goals and assisting 10 times, he beautifully combined defensive and attacking duties to become one of, if not the most, important player during our nine-in-a-row triumph.

As we shoot for ten, McGregor is going nowhere.

That’s despite The Daily Record reporting he’s been a £25m transfer target for English Premier League side Leicester City within the last 12 months.

The player isn’t planning a reunion with former boss Brendan Rodgers at the Foxes.

Asked if he’ll be here next season, McGregor told the paper: “Absolutely. I am loving my Celtic career and it seems to be going from strength to strength. I signed a long-term deal last year. That’s what I wanted, that’s what the club wanted.

“We were desperate to get nine in a row and now we can put all our energy into trying to finish the job. That’s the vision the club spoke to me about. That’s where they see Celtic going.

“They want Celtic to be dominant and I want to be part of that. It’s why I pledged my long-term future to the club.

“We have done well to have this period of dominance and we want to continue it. We want everybody to stay together and have a go next season.”

McGregor has signed two new Celtic contracts in the last two years so he’s obviously happy with his career at the club and probably well rewarded for his loyalty.

His most recent deal doesn’t expire until 2024, meaning he’s effectively committed the best years of his playing days to the Celtic Park cause.

As the man himself says, there’s no chance of him departing while the club stands on the brink of history.

Perhaps a day will come when he wants a new challenge but that’s far enough away now for us to not be concerned at all about his status.

One of our key stars apparently can’t wait for next season and wants to play in Celtic colours. We can’t be anything but happy about that.
