Confirmed: Celtic talent signs on loan at Championship outfit
Celtic youngster Johnny Kenny will be working under Owen Coyle this season after his year-long loan to Scottish Championship side Queen’s Park was confirmed today.
Kenny has been tracked by clubs north and south of the border this week, with reports indicating yesterday that Carlisle United in English League Two were keen on his services.
However, the Irish striker will be playing closer to home and boosts Coyle’s second-tier squad after their promotion from League One last season.
Kenny signed for Celtic in the January transfer window and, despite initial injury problems, has been training regularly with Ange Postecoglou’s first-team, as well as making appearances with Celtic B.
That came after impressive form for boyhood club Sligo Rovers.
He got an opportunity to impress at the Celtic pre-season training camp in Austria and netted twice against Wiener Viktoria, crediting the learning process of working with Celtic’s senior talents.
Moving to a competitive Championship club is definitely preferable for his development than playing in the Lowland League and Queen’s Park have their eye on some big achievements this season.
The Glasgow club have utilised a link-up with Celtic previously, most notably with Luca Connell, who starred for the club on their way to two successive promotions.
If the 19-year-old can bang in the goals during his loan spell, it will go some way towards showing he has a future at the Bhoys and the potential to one day break into the first-team squad.
Good luck with it all Johnny!
