Ismaila Soro has left Celtic to join Portuguese side FC Arouca on a season-long loan.

The club announced the news on social media this evening after he travelled for signing talks this weekend.

Crucially an option to buy clause is included in the deal, Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph reports.

Soro joined in the summer of 2020 as one of Neil Lennon’s buys, from Israeli outfit Bnei Yehuda, but never really managed to become a consistent force in the first-team.

He made 43 appearances in total for the Bhoys, though only 18 of them were starts.

The Ivorian was used by Ange Postecoglou in the first half of last season but it became increasingly clear he wasn’t in the manager’s long-term plans.

He fell out of the team after the January break, with the Celtic boss bringing in Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi to take his place.

Soro wasn’t even included in the squad that travelled to Austria this month, although that may have been because this move was always in the pipeline.

Hopefully he manages to impress in the Portuguese top-flight and make his move permanent. With his contract at Celtic running until 2024 and no sign of him playing a part here, it’s best if he is dropped off the wage bill, giving the club room to manoeuvre on bringing a player in.

All the best Ismaila!
