Could a loan move pay dividends for Celtic goalkeeper Scott Bain?

Celtic goalkeeper Scott Bain has certainly had an interesting few years in his career. From being out of favour at Dundee, to winning the treble with Celtic, he won’t forget what has happened in a hurry.

However, now his career looks to be at a crossroads once more. Since suffering a thumb injury at the start of the season, he has lost his place as Celtic first choice goalkeeper.

Craig Gordon, and now Fraser Forster have taken his place in goals. Recently Bain hasn’t even made the first-team squad for the Hoops.

However, all is not lost for the player. Craig Gordon’s contract expires at the end of the season. Fraser Forster is only on loan at the Hoops, for the moment anyway.

So next season Bain could well be first or second choice goalkeeper. However, if he wants to keep playing up until then, perhaps a loan move in January could suit the player.

It would give the player a chance of regular football. At the moment it doesn’t look like he will get that at Celtic. Celtic can cope with a temporary Bain exit. Conor Hazard is still at the club, and could be the third choice goalkeeper.

Perhaps Bain will be content to wait his for his chance at the Hoops though. As if Bain or Forster suffer an injury, you would imagine that his chances of returning to the first-team dramatically increase.

Bain is at a bit of a crossroads in his career. He will want to keep playing regular football after his spell as the Hoops number one for the second-half of last season.

At the moment though, it is unlikely that he will get first-team football at Celtic, for the rest of this season at the very least.

What Bain and Celtic decide to do in the January transfer window could be very interesting indeed.
