Celtic’s ongoing search to find a new right-back does not seem to be stopping any time soon. The Hoops are still on the lookout for a player to replace Mikael Lustig.
That could mean signing a player who is currently out of contract. There is a player available who fits the bill – although there could be a catch.
Free agent available
Former Rennes right-back Medhi Zeffane is currently a free agent after his contract expired with the French side.
Last season he played 31 times for Rennes, intriguingly at both left and right-back. However, he is primarily a right-back, and he has played a key role in helping Algeria reach the final of the African Cup of Nations.
He seems certain to start Friday’s final against Senegal, after playing in the 2-1 semi-final win over Nigeria.
Hasn’t had much of a break
That could be the catch with any potential deal for the player. He has not had much of a summer break, having played in the African Cup of Nations.
Normally that could put the Hoops off agreeing any deal. But such is the situation with signing a right-back that it might not in this instance.
Perhaps Zeffane isn’t on Celtic’s list of right-back targets. However, he has the experience to do a good job for the Hoops.
A right-back needs to be signed as soon as possible. Maybe Medhi Zeffane will be that player.
