Celtic’s newly appointed head of football operations Nick Hammond will no doubt play a big part in any signings that the Hoops will make in the January transfer window.
He will likely have a list of targets that he wants to bring to the club, and will be discussing them with Neil Lennon and Peter Lawwell.
One player who may or may not feature on the list is a striker who has been scoring goals on a regular basis for his side over the past year – Aberdeen’s Sam Cosgrove.
Excellent record over last two seasons
Hammond will get a chance to see the player for himself when the Hoops travel to Pittodrie to take on Aberdeen next Sunday.
Should the player continue his good form when up against Celtic, then he may very well become a target for the Hoops.
Some people may be asking if Celtic need another striker? At the moment, the answer to that would have to be ‘yes’.
Hoops only have one consistent striker
At the moment, only Odsonne Edouard is scoring goals consistently for Celtic. Vakoun Issouf Bayo has not featured often, and when he has, he has not found it easy to score goals. Leigh Griffiths hasn’t played for Celtic since August due to injuries.
Therefore, in a season where the league could be decided by a few points, Celtic will not want to drop any more points in the title race. That could see the Hoops try to sign a striker in January.
A lot will depend on how Cosgrove fares against Celtic. Should he turn in a season’s best performance, the demand could be there to bring the player to Celtic. Only time and Nick Hammond will tell.
