It has been reported that Celtic are interested in signing free agent former Leicester City right-back Danny Simpson.
The Scottish Sun revealed recently that the player is set to join up with the Hoops for a trial.
The player himself is remaining non-committal about his future. He admitted that facing his old team would be an option. However, he has indicated that he is willing to move to a new country.
“I’d love to go back to the King Power to play against the lads,” he said, as reported by the Daily Mail.
“Wouldn’t rule out anything”
“But at the same time I wouldn’t rule out anything abroad, in terms of a new experience.”
There is no doubt that Simpson is a very experienced player. The Hoops need an experienced right-back following the departure of Mikael Lustig,
Simpson was excellent for Leicester in their Premier League title triumph of 2016. However, Simpson rarely featured for the Foxes last season.
Rarely featured for Leicester
He made only nine first-team appearances for the team managed by former Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers.
However, if he can get up to full fitness quickly he could be a good signing for the Hoops. It sounds like the player isn’t sure what to do next though.
It will become clearer on that front after he completes his trial at Celtic.
