Disappointment as Celtic fail to get transfer done before important deadline

Neil Lennon has all but confirmed that Hapoel Be’er Sheva’s Hatem Abd Elhamed will be the club’s fourth signing of the summer.

Elhamed can play at centre-back and right-back. He could be used as a right-back for the Hoops in the short-term at least.

However, it is a slight disappointment that the Hoops failed to get the deal done in time for the deadline to play in the Champions League second round tie against Nomme Kalju.

The player had to be signed before midnight before the Kalju game to be eligible to play in the match. Unfortunately, that has not happened.

Therefore, it looks as if Kristoffer Ajer will once more have to fill-in at right-back for the Hoops for the two matches in the second round.

That will be a bit of a blow to Hoops boss Neil Lennon. He will want a settled back four in the side as soon as possible.

At the moment though, that does not look like happening any time soon. When Elhamed does arrive at the club, it will be interesting to see when he does make his Hoops debut.

Perhaps the first league game of the season against St Johnstone could be a good idea. It would get the player up to speed before any potential third round clash.

For now, the player has not yet joined the Hoops. And that is slightly disappointing.
