Don't expect Celtic to make another move for Trevor Carson

A few seasons ago, it seemed that Motherwell goalkeeper Trevor Carson could move to Celtic. In January 2018, the Hoops had two bids for the player turned down, as Brendan Rodgers wanted to provide competition to Craig Gordon.

The move didn’t happen, and the player stayed at the Fir Park club. The Hoops ended up signing Scott Bain instead, who went on to win a domestic treble for the Hoops.

Now it seems that Carson could be available for transfer two years on, as his Motherwell contract is set to expire at the end of the season. However, don’t expect the Hoops to try to sign the player once more.

Carson is in demand, as a recent report in the Daily Record claims that Livingston want to sign the player. Aberdeen have also been credited with an interest.

However, Celtic won’t be making another move for the player. The reason being, the Hoops already have a number of goalkeepers at the club.

Fraser Forster is at Celtic at the moment, and the club will be doing all they can to make his loan deal a permanent one.

Scott Bain recently signed a long-term contract with the club, whilst Ross Doohan and Conor Hazard are also at the club. Craig Gordon’s time at the club might be up soon. Even if that is the case the Hoops will still have at least three goalkeepers on their books.

If Carson had still been Motherwell’s first choice goalkeeper two years on then a move to the Hoops might have happened. But he has not played a first-team game for the Fir Park side this season.

It was a good idea at the time for Celtic to move for Carson, who had been excellent for Motherwell. But time has moved on, and Celtic surely won’t be trying to sign the player again.
