Recent Celtic arrival Hatem Abd Elhamed has cleared up any doubt about where he will be playing for the Hoops. Despite playing as a centre-back for parts of his career, the player has revealed that he will be playing as a right-back for the club.
“If you say to me ‘play this position or that position’ I will always try my best. My position, however, is right-back” he said, as reported by the Daily Record.
“I played right-back a lot”

“I played only four or five games at right-back over the past few months but I played right-back a lot before that.”
“I give my best in everything I do, 100 per cent, in every game and training session” he concluded.
It seems that Elhamed will be Mikael Lustig’s replacement in the Hoops side for the time being. That will be a relief to Hoops fans who have been worried about the lack of right-backs at the club.
Debut could arrive in first league game of season

It will be intriguing to see when he makes his Hoops debut. The first game he is eligible to play in is the first league game of the season against St Johnstone.
Perhaps it makes sense to have Elhamed start that game in order to give him playing time before the next Champions league qualifying round.
That will be up to Neil Lennon though. Still, the player seems very confident in his abilities. That can only be a good thing going forward for both Elhamed, and the club.
