As well as the overnight pre-season win over DC United in the first fixture of the US Tour, there was another update for the Celtic fans they probably don’t want to hear about.
The future of Matt O’Riley has been the subject of intense speculation this summer as some of England’s and Europe’s top clubs circle the Celtic midfielder.
With Atalanta’s interest grabbing much of the headlines this week, Juventus have also been named as a club who have an eye on him as well.
Well, it seems that the interest in O’Riley could be about to ramp up again after the latest update from The Mirror.
Southampton readying big money move for Matt O’Riley
According to the report in its print edition page 74, Russell Martin is set to ‘push the boat’ out to land the Celtic midfielder after reports suggested at the beginning of the month that Southampton were preparing a record-breaking bid of O’Riley.

Rusell Martin is a huge fan of the Denmark international midfielder after working with him during his time at MK Dons.

Martin will need to shell out a significant sum of cash after it became apparent that Celtic made it clear this week just how much they expect to get for O’Riley if clubs are serious about buying him.
O’Riley was in great goalscoring form after bagging two goals in the 4-0 win over DC United. The Celtic midfielder picked up from where he left off from last season when he was Celtic’s top goalscorer with 19 goals.
Huge performances in the Champions League for Celtic against the likes of Real Madrid, Lazio and Atletico Madrid over the past two seasons have also shown that O’Riley can perform at the highest level amongst Europe’s elite.
And it is clear is as this summer goes on, the interest in the classy midfielder is sure to continue.
