Eric Dier’s Spurs stance could come at a crucial time for Celtic

Celtic will still be reeling from the news that Cameron Carter-Vickers and Maik Nawrocki are set to miss two months of the season due to injury.

The update means that Celtic are currently without four centre-backs at the moment with Stephen Welsh and Yuki Kobayashi both still suffering from injury.

Celtic boss, Brendan Rodgers has already admitted that he intends to address the central defensive issue before the transfer window closes and it seems that a report from Football London could have provided the Hoops boss with a ray of sunshine during this dark period.

Addressing the ongoing issue of the future of Spurs centre-back, Eric Dier, the report has claimed that the 29-year-old is not pushing for a move from the London club but would be open to discussing a loan move if Spurs boss, Ange Postecoglou feels he won’t break into the first team.

Dier is entering the final 11 months of his contract at Spurs and the report says that the Lillywhites wouldn’t be open to a loan move other than to save money on the England international’s wages.

Football London also says that Dier could find himself in contention for the first team if any injuries were to happen to their first-choice centre-backs but even that depends on whether or not Postecoglou looks to reinforce his backline.

Either way, there are a lot of ifs, buts and maybes at play here if Dier was to continue at Spurs. However, with Celtic being reportedly interested in Dier, a move north of the border could appeal (albeit on loan) as he would almost certainly be guaranteed first-team football.

At the very least, Brendan Rodgers should ask the question. With Champions League football on the horizon and the opportunity to win medals, a move to Celtic could be mutually beneficial to both the player and the Bhoys.
