Fabrizio Romano sets up a pleasing deadline day for Celtic as Oliver Abildgaard comes into view
Celtic are closing in on the signing of Oliver Abildgaard from Rubin Kazan, renowned transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported on Twitter early this morning.
Abildgaard’s name was being spread across Celtic social media yesterday as a potential option for the Bhoys, and it seems there is fire to the smoke.
Romano believes a deal is in place and agreements have been reached with just the final step of signing contracts remaining.
Abildgaard is a 6ft 4in, physical and disruptive Danish international who was known in Russia for being a player that can dominate the defensive midfield area.
The 26-year-old made 91 appearances for Aalborg before earning a big move to Rubin Kazan, where he played alongside Carl Starfelt and Sead Haksabanovic.
Like Haksabanovic, his situation at the Russian club has been complicated in recent months, and it appears Celtic have done well to overcome those barriers to convince him of a move to Scotland.
Obviously, nothing is done until it’s announced by the club, so we await an announcement or an indication the player is in Scotland to complete the move.
On the face of it, though, it looks like we’re set for a big deadline day. Abildgaard will be seen by many as the missing piece of the transfer jigsaw this summer after the pursuit of Vinicius Souza earlier in the summer.
If it goes through, I think we can reflect on an excellent transfer window from the club.
