Rocco Vata looks set to leave Celtic for a new challenge south of the border after Fabrizio Romano issued an update on his future earlier today.
The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international has been in contract talks with the Bhoys for quite some time, though no progress has been found, and an impasse has subsequently been created as his deal is now up.
Several clubs in Europe have expressed interest in Vata amid rising speculation surrounding his next career step; however, Watford have since emerged as the outright frontrunner for his signature.
This morning, we told how a deal was on the verge of being agreed for Vata to swap Parkhead for Vicarage Road after visiting the Hornets’ training facilities. He is due to undergo a medical ahead of signing for Watford.

Now, an agreement has been reached between all parties, courtesy of Romano’s reliable reportage on the situation at hand.
Fabrizio Romano’s update on Rocco Vata’s impending exit
Taking to social media platform X, Romano has ‘confirmed’ that Vata will participate in his medical tomorrow ahead of signing a contract at Watford until the summer of 2028 — Celtic stand to earn more than £200,000 in compensation.
He explained: “Watford have agreed deal to sign 2005 born talent Rocco Vata, medical to follow on Thursday. Celtic will receive compensation in excess of £200k, contract until June 2028. Exclusive story, confirmed.”
Per Transfermarkt, the Glasgow-born youngster made six senior appearances for Celtic, registering a solitary goal against Buckie Thistle in the Scottish Cup.
Undoubtedly, there will be frustration at this news from supporters. Vata is a talented prospect who could’ve potentially made the grade, but he now joins a long list of young players that see their future away from Parkhead.
The money and facilities on offer in England would be difficult to turn down; nevertheless, it doesn’t make it an easier pill to swallow as the Bhoys lose out on prodigious assets.
Either way, this scenario appears to have been on the cards for a while now. Clarity has now been found, barring any last-minute hitches, so there is nothing else to do but move on.
