Filip Benkovic latest; Rodgers considers transfer future as he references Celtic form
Filip Benkovic is struggling on loan at Cardiff City and Brendan Rodgers has called on his former Celtic star to get his act together.
Telling reporters today that Benkovic must ‘not be worthy of playing’ in Wales right now, the ex-Bhoys boss sounded frustrated at the situation.
As we approach another transfer window, Rodgers has admitted they’ll have to look at his situation if there’s no hope of regular football in the English Championship.
As quoted by Wales Online, he said: “He needs to play games and at the minute he’s not playing at Leicester and now he’s not playing at Cardiff.
“It’s something where we need to get Filip playing. He needs to get working again and show the level he can play at.
“Thankfully for myself, I’ve seen the level. When he was with me at Celtic he played against RB Leipzig and he was sensational. Really since that first 10 games at Celtic, he hasn’t maintained a level of fitness and performance that I know he can.
“Hopefully for him he get playing again and if it’s not going to be at Cardiff in the longer term, then we’ll look at it from there.”
Celtic peak not reached
Benkovic has yet to make a single appearance for Cardiff, though in fairness has found himself injured for large chunks of the season.
Still, his lack of progress since his Celtic Park exit is alarming and he really needs to find a settled home. Since leaving Glasgow just 11 appearances have been made.
If he can stay fit, and find a happy place, any potential club could have a star on their hands.
Unfortunately, there are more question marks than answers about his post-Celtic form.
I wonder if a cheap deal for the player might be worth a shout for a certain Scottish club familiar to him?
