Forget Luis Palma, Celtic should be paying attention to his Lech Poznan teammate

Luis Palma’s loan spell at Lech Poznan this season has been well-documented in Celtic circles.

After scoring in back-to-back games, he now has nine goals and nine assists this season. In the Hoops squad, only Benjamin Nygren has scored more this season.

Palma divided opinion in his time as a Celtic player. He could be frustrating and effective in equal measure, but was ultimately discarded completely by Brendan Rodgers.

Regardless of your opinion on the Honduran, he has a teammate at Lech who seems a much better fit for what the team needs.

Antoni Kozubal: Lech Poznan’s energetic midfielder would be perfect for Celtic

Antoni Kozubal has been a nailed-on starter for Lech for a number of years at this point, despite being aged just 21.

After trialling with Manchester United as a youth, he was handed his debut for Poland as a 20-year-old.

Watching Kozubal, his most noticeable attribute is his energy, in and out of possession.

He has been used in a more subdued role this season compared to last, but has still contributed two goals to their UEFA Conference League run.

He has been linked with Arsenal in the past, though his most recent reported suitors were Wolfsburg, who are currently struggling in the Bundesliga.

Given that Lech’s most expensive transfer sale is Jan Bednarek for less than £5 million, Kozubal is still absolutely within Celtic’s reach.

A major rebuild is on the cards for Celtic this summer, with few positions in the team safe. Whether Palma should be a part of it is definitely up for debate, given that he is reportedly attracting interest from Sevilla.

Kozubal, on the other hand, would be a signing of international pedigree and plenty of resale value; right up Celtic’s street.

And, crucially, a real injection of legs into the Hoops’ midfield. He has also spent time as Lech’s designated corner taker, making him a suitable candidate to replace Arne Engels, should the Belgian be sold.

He is currently contracted until 2028, and wouldn’t easily be drawn away from Lech, describing it as a “dream” to play for the club in the past.
