Lee Buchanan’s contract at Derby County has been extended by a year, journalist Alan Nixon has reported.
The 21-year old caught the eye of clubs across the UK, performing in Wayne Rooney’s Derby side, which faced several points deductions and were ultimately relegated from the English Championship.
Buchanan was heavily linked with a move to join Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic side during both the last summer and the January transfer window when it was reported the Bhoys had been tracking him for months.

Celtic sent scouts to watch the England under-21 internationalist as they eyed a move for the talented full-back with his contract coming to an end this summer.
Derby boss Wayne Rooney slammed the idea of Buchanan leaving the club during the January window and was desperate to keep one of his key players last season as they pushed for an incredible escape from relegation.
Rooney won’t have to worry about losing the left-back on a free transfer now and he’ll be at Derby next season unless a bid is now received.
Other left-back targets now in sight for Postecoglou
Going into this summer’s transfer window, left-back is clearly a priority position for Ange Postecoglou.
So far, the club has been linked to Hammarby defender Mohanad Jeahze and Argentine youth internationalist Francisco Ortega.
Buchanan might have been seen as a potential target during last year’s transfer windows. However, it appears that Postecoglou has moved on in his pursuit of a full-back.

Current left-back Greg Taylor had a brilliant end to the season, so it will be intriguing to see the battle for that position on the left-side of the back four.
Hopefully, within the next few weeks, we can see one of these deals completed in time for new players to settle in ahead of pre-season.
