Greek Report: AEK Athens give up on move for Celtic midfielder Olivier Ntcham
AEK Athens have given up hope of signing Celtic midfielder Olivier Ntcham after receiving word from Glasgow he will be staying at the Bhoys.
The Greek side’s interest in the Frenchman has been well-documented this summer.
At one point they were even confident of landing him on a free transfer.
However, Greek outlet Sportime reports that the information available to AEK wasn’t accurate and negotiations didn’t end up actually going that well.
Sportime reckon the Athens side made a last-ditch effort to sign up Ntcham a few days ago, only to be told he is set to stay in Scotland.
That ties in with the comments of Ange Postecoglou yesterday. He confirmed that the midfielder is seeking another chance at Celtic after featuring in a pre-season friendly against Charlton Athletic.
Evidence is mounting that Celtic are taking a bold approach to the clutch of first-team players that have expiring contracts.
Ntcham, Odsonne Edouard, Kristoffer Ajer and Ryan Christie are all coming to the end of their deals. However, there is no firm sign that any of them will leave before the August transfer deadline.
In fact, in Ajer’s case, it’s increasingly looking likely he’ll see out the remainder of his contract, per reports in his homeland. A number of clubs from Europe and England have also given up on his pursuit.
Postecoglou is keeping an open mind on absolutely everyone in his squad and Celtic don’t want to be bullied into lower valuations.
Will it all pay off in the end?
