Hammarby sporting director Jesper Jansson has surprisingly stated that they’ve received no contact from Celtic regarding the potential acquisition of Mohanad Jeahze.

The Iraq international had been linked with a move to Parkhead by the Scottish Sun, who reported that he had decided to come to Celtic and would likely be in place by the beginning of pre-season.

The report claimed that the Hoops were putting the finishing touches on a £2m deal for the left-back. Ange Postecoglou would also state afterward that he was looking to bring in any new signings before pre-season begins in June [The Scotsman].

But now Jansson is stating that his club hasn’t actually heard anything from Celtic as he dismissed the report.

As quoted by Fotboll Direkt, Jansson said: “No, that’s not true. We have not heard anything from Celtic.”

Jeahze has featured 4 times for Iraq at international level and has made 56 appearances during his time with Hammarby [Transfermarkt].

Mohanad Jeahze to Celtic still not finalised as Hammarby pour cold water on report

It could be the case that Celtic simply haven’t approached Hammarby yet but are preparing to do so. That’s one potential scenario here with the Swedish club insisting they have yet to receive an offer.

But it doesn’t sound as if a deal to bring the player to Glasgow is close to being finalised whatsoever. We still need Hammarby to accept whatever proposal we put forward.

The Hoops have already scouted the player of course as they took in Hammarby’s game against Malmo last week [Expressen]. So it’s clear there is indeed a solid interest.

Time will tell whether Jeahze ends up signing for Celtic, but there’s certainly a need for strong recruitment this summer as we look ahead to tweaking the squad.

Left-back will indeed be one of the manager’s priority positions too as we look ahead to UCL participation next season.

All eyes now on whether that man is indeed Jeahze.
