St Mirren manager Jim Goodwin has confirmed interest from Celtic in teenage talent Dylan Reid ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 16-year-old made his debut for the Buddies away to Rangers earlier this month and is being tipped to have a big future.

He became the youngest ever Scottish Premiership player in that Ibrox clash.

Goodwin is a big fan and is still hoping he can tie down the player to a contract in Paisley.

However, the St Mirren boss has also admitted he’s had his head turned by some big clubs in Scotland, England and Germany.

As quoted by Not The Old Firm, Goodwin explained: “Dylan’s been brilliant. The academy is really important to us as a club and I’ve said on numerous occasions that I want to be recognised as a manager who gives youngsters opportunities. Age doesn’t scare me.

“Dylan has turned 16 and we gave him his debut at Ibrox, which is no more than he deserved. He’s been training with the first-team for a number of weeks and he looks as if he belongs here. He’s not out of place.

“We are very hopeful that we will be able to sort out a longer term deal in the next couple of days. Talks are ongoing and that would be brilliant for the club. I had a really good meeting with his family to explain my feelings on his development.

“He’s had his head turned by a number of huge clubs and we aren’t just talking about just in Scotland. The two big boys here would love to have him, half-a-dozen of the big clubs in England would love to have him and there’s teams in Germany as well.”

Dylan Reid links to Celtic are long-term

Reid has been linked with a move to Celtic since way back in 2019 when he was just 14. The Scottish Sun reported that Benfica, Bayern Munich, Celtic and Rangers were all monitoring his progress despite his age.

Now able to play in the Scottish top-flight, it’ll be interesting to see how he progresses at St Mirren if he does indeed sign a new contract.

Certainly, his chance of first-team football is greater at the Buddies than at Celtic, or any other teams linked with a move.

Although I’m obviously biased in favour of Celtic, the youngster should stay where he is for now and attempt to establish himself in the Scottish top-flight. That’ll do his chances of a big move no harm at all. David Turnbull is a notable example of that.
