Hibs man with ‘John McGinn vibes’ gets Premier League enquiries after Celtic clash

Celtic don’t quite dominate the Scottish market the way they used to.

John McGinn is perhaps the most infamous example of a player Celtic were interested in, but were unable to successfully negotiate a deal with Hibs at the time.

Lennon Miller was also intensely pursued by Brendan Rodgers before eventually opting to move abroad to Udinese in Serie A.

Luke McCowan is a nice example of the value that can still exist for the Celts in the Scottish market – and his former teammate is now generating serious interest.

A week after facing Celtic, Josh Mulligan is now reportedly being watched by clubs in the Premier League.

Hibs star Josh Mulligan gets ‘enquiries’ from the Premier League

Mulligan has operated as both a right-back and a box-to-box midfielder in his career.

He has only just joined Hibs after the expiry of his contract at Dundee, having been heavily linked with a move to Rangers.

Mulligan was called up to Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad for the first time in October, in reward for his impressive start to life at Easter Road.

His performances have earned comparisons to McGinn, given Mulligan’s similar habit of driving powerfully with the ball.

According to the Daily Mail, Leeds United and Nottingham Forest have both made initial inquiries about Mulligan ahead of the winter window.

Forest’s interest is reportedly more serious – they were also in the race for McGinn back in 2018, when they were still in the Championship.

Celtic have been linked with another Scottish box-to-box midfielder in David Watson, so they will no doubt be aware of Mulligan.

And with the riches of the Premier League circling, he is certainly one to keep an eye on ahead of January.

Would you be in favour of Celtic moving for Josh Mulligan?

Josh Mulligan has ‘John McGinn vibes’

Hibs man Martin Boyle kept the McGinn comparisons going after their clash against Falkirk, which was immediately after the Celtic game.

He said: “I thought Josh particularly was unbelievable today. He kind of just brought his game to a new level. He took the game by the scruff of the neck.

“He keeps driving at people. I think he got about four people booked.

“He’s another player with those John McGinn vibes you get about him. Head down, runs through people. So it’s great to see.”
