How much money Brighton have really offered Celtic for Matt O’Riley as deal nearly complete

The Matt O’Riley transfer saga looks like it could be coming to an end after a BBC journalist shared how much Brighton has offered for the Celtic midfielder.

We discussed yesterday how Brighton CEO, Paul Barber, was asked about his club’s move for O’Riley as he outlined the Premier League club’s ambition to help progress this season.

And whilst Barber wouldn’t be drawn in the speculation, he did say that he is ‘always looking’ to strengthen his team to compete in the league.

Whilst all the noises point towards Matt O’Riley making a potential move to the south coast of England, BBC journalist, Kheredine Idessane, has shared what he’s been ‘told’ about the offer from Brighton to tempt Celtic to sell their star man.

Brighton have offered Celtic £26m for Matt O’Riley

Brighton made a formal bid for O’Riley on Monday and whilst Celtic is considering the deal, Idesanne reckons that if the Parkhead club accept the deal, it could be done within the next 48 hours.

Idesanne posted, “Would @CelticFC accept £26m for Matt O’Riley? That’s what I’m told @OfficialBHAFC are offering for the Celtic midfielder.

“Would break club record fee of £25m Arsenal paid for Keiran Tierney.  If clubs come to an agreement, deal could be done in the next 24-48 hours, am hearing.”

As Idessanne said, the deal would break what Celtic received for Jota and Kieran Tierney and would plough even more cash into the Celtic Park coffers.

Brendan Rodgers has already intimated that should O’Riley leave, he would want two midfielders signed to replace the Denmark international.

Arne Engels is one that has been touted as perfect for Celtic and is available for £10m.

With Atalanta’s interest cooling in O’Riley and Southampton boss, Russell Martin confirming that his club are not in the running, it seems that Brighton are in pole position for the Celtic midfielder and the fans may have to start to accept that the big Dane could be on his way out of Paradise.
