Ismaila Soro has officially left Celtic on a permanent basis, signing for Beitar Jerusalem in Israel despite some later transfer window drama involving a Greek side.

Soro’s future has been something of a saga for months since leaving Portuguese side Arouca after a loan spell last season.

He was heavily linked with a move to Valenciennes in France but reports indicated there was confusion about which agent was representing him and if it was valid with the footballing authorities over there.

Greek journalist Giannis Chorianopoulos reported this afternoon that Aris Thessaloniki had been unofficially briefing that Soro was on his way there, too, and was close to signing.

However, Aris were left disappointed after the Israeli outfit officially announced his signature on their website.

Thankfully, for Celtic, he hasn’t signed on loan but on a two-year contract, with the option for more beyond. Soro’s relationship with the Bhoys is officially over.

The Ivorian played 43 times for the club but hasn’t featured in any capacity since February 2022. It’s long been known he didn’t have a future here. Moving him off the wage bill is a positive.

Soro isn’t the only player who could be making an exit from the Bhoys today. Albian Ajeti and Sead Haksabanovic are also scheduled for late moves as Brendan Rodgers frees up room for players who want to be a part of his reign.
