Celtic are set to resurrect interest in Sampdoria defender Omar Colley in the event Kristoffer Ajer leaves for AC Milan, Italian website SampNews24 has reported this week.
Earlier this month, Sky Sport Italia stated that Celtic had made an enquiry for the centre-half but had yet to follow up their interest with a formal bid.
It was also said he has a £10.8m release clause in his contract.
SampNews24 reckon that discussions between Celtic and the Serie A side could be resurrected this week, as Ajer’s situation continues to make the headlines.
Journalist Gianluca di Marzio reported last Friday that Milan were set to open talks for the Celtic star this week too, so it seems the two transfer stories could be intertwined.
With just two years left on his contract and his agent requesting valuations of the player from the club, no-one would be too surprised if the Norwegian cap did end up leaving Celtic before October 5th.
If we receive a good fee for the player I have no issue with that.
It’s vital though we have a replacement lined up and ready to come in without disruption to our season. Colley would appear to fit the bill.
The 12-cap Gambian international is a regular in Serie A with Sampdoria, having gained experience in the Belgian and Swedish top-flights prior to his Italian switch.
Stat-tracking website WhoScored reckon he is an aerially dominant defender whose strengths lie in clearances and ball interceptions.
Anyone playing consistently in Italy is likely to have the quality required to make an impact in the Scottish Premiership, especially alongside Shane Duffy and Christopher Jullien.
It’s a Celtic transfer possibility to watch in the final two weeks of the transfer window.
