It doesn’t look like it will happen this month, but come the summer, Celtic will need to address the goalkeeping situation.
Number one Joe Hart and number two Scott Bain are out of contract. Will the club hand them new deals?
Either way, a new goalkeeper will need to be signed, for the long-term future of the club, which then casts doubt on Joe Hart’s future.
The 36-year-old was asked about his Celtic future and made it clear that what matters most is what’s happening out on the pitch, as he told The Glasgow Times.
He did express how he just loves playing for this ‘amazing club’, but understands that his current situation is ‘out of my hands’.
Given that there has been talk in the transfer market that Brendan Rodgers might be looking for a new keeper – there have been mixed reports about Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher.
Then it probably indicates that, at the very least, Joe Hart will be challenged next season, that’s if he stays on.
But it seems as though, from the player himself, if it was up to him, then he could carry on going, as he is loving his time at Parkhead.
Joe Hart’s Celtic future
“I don’t think it’s too important at the moment if I’m honest. We have far more important things to focus on,” said Hart about his future.
“From the moment I came up here, I’ve always said I’m just looking forward to playing football and not really thinking about that side of it. I’m contracted to this amazing club and I love turning up every day and doing my best.
“I don’t think I’ve ever not done that. Every single day I’ve loved it, every opportunity that’s come my way – Shrewsbury, Blackpool, Tranmere, Manchester City, Birmingham, going to play abroad with Torino. What a life, what an amazing opportunity for someone who loves playing football.
“I can’t speak for anyone else, but I still love getting up every day and looking forward. Nothing has changed. I live in the present like I did when I was 16, 15, 14. It’s about the next opportunity, the next training session, the next time I get to appear in this stadium.
“That’s not because I’m getting older. You could have asked the same thing of me 20 years ago and got the same answer. I can only say I love being part of this team. The manager has been great to me, the goalkeeping coach, the lads. I love being around them and turning out every single day.
On how long he can continue to perform at the highest level: “Who knows? That’s out of my hands isn’t it? That’s just how that works. One thing I can leave in my hands is I can look after myself, work hard and physically be ready to train. I can push myself every single day. I can’t see that changing whether people want me as a professional footballer or not. It’s how I like to live my life.”

Should Celtic keep Hart on?
It could be argued that Celtic should keep Hart on board, as well as bringing in a new goalkeeper.
That way, the new face coming in can settle in much better and if Hart becomes number two, then that position can be a trusted one.
From a financial perspective, is it really going to eat a chunk out of the team’s wages? More than likely not.
So, it’s probably not a bad move to keep Hart on the books, but also bring in that new keeper for the long term.
