Scotland may have suffered a demoralising 4-0 defeat to Russia on Thursday, but that didn’t stop Aston Villa’s John McGinn from being impressed by Lawrence Shankland.

Shankland, who has been scouted by Celtic recently, as reported by the Daily Record, made his Scotland debut in the second-half of the game.

His performance in the Scotland game was saluted by McGinn.

“As for positives, I thought Lawrence Shankland was excellent when he came on at half-time” he said, as reported by the Daily Mail.

“He was really impressive and I’m sure of he keeps playing like that he’ll be involved plenty in the future.”

The fact that Shankland has made his international debut could add a few more pounds to his eventual transfer fee. That is, when he is sold on by Dundee United.

Celtic are reportedly in the hunt for another striker. That has been made clear by the recent interest shown in Hearts’ Uche Ikpeazu, as reported by West London Sport.

Could that striker be Shankland? That remains to be seen. However, he didn’t let himself down in his Scotland debut.

He looked composed and accomplished for a player that is playing in the Championship. That is something that would have been picked up upon by Celtic’s scouts, should they have been watching his international debut.

Celtic do seem to be eager to sign another striker to compliment the ones they already have. Only time will tell if Shankland is that player.
