Jota's most telling comments yet on Celtic move

Jota has again been asked about his long-term future at Celtic, despite any response being almost impossible to be definitive.

The attacker usually glosses over the subject without really being able to say anything. However, this time his answer was a bit more revealing.

What is absolutely clear is that Jota is loving life at Celtic. And not just in a “every player says that” kind of way, but in a “this is the highlight of my career so far” kind of way.

As quoted by The Daily Record, he’s said this weekend: “Success is something that can come really fast but it can also go really fast. So I just have to work a lot and remain humble. I am very happy with Celtic.

“In my short career, I think being with Celtic is the best moment for me. But I don’t want to stop – I have plenty more I want to do. My head knows what I can do and I’m not going to stop until I reach what I’m supposed to. There is much more to come from me. Game after game, like knowing more about my teammates and us all being together, I think it will just get better.

“I believe the team is getting stronger. We are working well together in every training session, every game. I just need to keep on doing my thing and learn from everyone. I don’t know what Benfica are thinking. But my family and friends are of course happy for me. What is done is done and I cannot stop. I need to do more and more.”

It’s very hard not to get excited about the prospect of securing Jota on a permanent basis when he scores goals like the one he did on Thursday night.

The composure and confidence it takes to stick a chance like that away with one touch, against a team the calibre of Leverkusen, is priceless to a club like Celtic.

It goes without saying that supporters and the manager want to sign him up. Reading between the lines of Jota’s comments, it feels like it’s moving in that direction for him also.
