Football journalist Pete O’Rourke has reported that Liverpool are considering a late move for Celtic target Ben Davies.

Davies has been heavily linked with a move to Celtic over the last couple of months.

As we discussed earlier, Bhoys boss Neil Lennon has even admitted it’s a deal they are looking to complete before tomorrow’s transfer deadline.

Davies is available on a pre-contract basis, with less than six months remaining on his current contract.

O’Rourke, who has worked for broadcasters such as Sky Sports News in the past, reports on Twitter: “Understand Liverpool are considering a late move for Preston defender Ben Davies to solve their defensive injury problems. Celtic are also in for the centre-back who is out of contract at the end of the season.”

Clearly Liverpool’s interest would massively complicate any Celtic deal.

The Anfield club have the cash and ambition that the Bhoys simply don’t possess. From an English footballer’s perspective, there is no real hard decision to make.

The harsh reality for Celtic is they are in danger of missing out on a prime defensive target.

Given the club have had since January 1st to agree a pre-contract with Davies, there’s little excuse for their inaction too, unless the player wanted to survey his options.

Tomorrow’s deadline day will now be a nail-biting one for Celtic fans who know that the position needs strengthning.

An injury to Christopher Jullien and the form of Shane Duffy has made it a necessity.

Will the club deliver?
