Kenny Dalglish doesn’t think Odsonne Edouard will force any move away from Celtic

Legendary Celtic striker Kenny Dalglish doesn’t think the Hoops need to worry about losing Odsonne Edouard any time soon, despite his exceptional form for club and country, writing in his Sunday Post column (06/10 print edition, Post Match supplement page 11).

Edouard has been in lethal form for Celtic of late. Last Thursday night against Cluj he was one of the players on the scoresheet in a crucial 2-0 win.

Dalglish thinks that kind of performance, along with his exploits for France U21s, will make him a wanted man amongst Europe’s top clubs.

However, the Hoops legend is confident that when the player does leave, it’ll be on the club’s terms, rather than the player himself forcing a move.

As quoted by The Sunday Post (06/10 print edition, Post Match supplement page 11), Dalglish said of the striker: “He has been scoring on a regular basis for Celtic in the past couple of seasons, and he is now also a major contributor for the France Under-21s.

“That kind of stuff brings him to the forefront, and he will be sought after.

“However, he appears to be a solid professional and not one to rock the boat.

“That’s why I expect him to be around all season as Celtic try to win nine-in-a-row.”

Edouard’s focused

Dalglish is right to suggest that Edouard doesn’t appear to be the type to make rash decisions and back Celtc into a corner regarding transfers. It’d be surprising if he followed in the footsteps of former teammate Moussa Dembele in that regard.

To date he’s shown maturity and composure in all aspects of life at Celtic on and off the pitch.

I think everyone accepts that one day he’ll head off for big money, but yes, there’s nine-in-a-row to go for and hopefully ten after that. If he sticks around for all that then he’ll still be a very young man with his whole future ahead of him.

Most important though is not letting him go mid-season during the upcoming January window. In fact, we can’t afford to lose any of our best players across that month.

Edouard is flourishing under Lennon just now and with nine goals this season so far is on his way to bettering last year’s tally of 23. Let’s give him the chance to do that and fire us towards even more silverware.
