Buying players in January is never easy. Teams don’t always want to sell players, and teams can be limited to only loan deals.
Celtic need to make some signings in January, and they will have to be successful, as the Hoops are in the middle of a close title race.
With that in mind, we thought we’d take a look back to three of Celtic’s most successful January window purchases:
KRIS COMMONS

The attacker has to go down as one of Celtic’s best January signings of all time. He joined for a fee of £300,000 in January 2011, and that turned out to be a bargain. Commons more than repaid that fee, as in his time at the club he scored a number of important goals, and won a host of trophies with the club. In his six and a half years with the club, Commons scored a total of 89 goals, which is an excellent record. He has to be considered as one of Celtic’s best players of the 2010s.
TOM ROGIC

The mercurial midfielder has been at the centre of some of Celtic’s biggest moments of the 2010s. Who can possibly forget his winning goal in the 2017 Scottish Cup Final? What some might not remember is that the Australian was a January signing for the Hoops, joining in 2013from Central Coast Mariners for a fee of £400,000. The signing has turned out to be an inspired one, as in his seven years at the club Rogic has scored a host of goals, and won three domestic trebles with the club. Even if he doesn’t score another goal for the Hoops, he will go down in history as the man who secured the invincible treble.
LEIGH GRIFFITHS

How can you quibble with a January signing who has gone on to score more than 100 goals for Celtic? You can’t, which makes Leigh Griffiths one of Celtic’s best January signings. The striker joined the Hoops from Wolves in 2014, and has enjoyed a stellar career at the club for the most part. His best season at the club was undoubtedly the 2014-15 one, where he scored 40 goals under the management of Ronny Deila. The player might not be the force that he once was, but with 107 goals under his belt you can’t argue about how effective he has been for the club over the years.
