Kyogo Furuhashi ‘set’ for sensational loan return to Celtic after Martin O’Neill endorsement

Kyogo Furuhashi is heading back to Celtic on loan, it is being reported.

Signed by Ange Postecoglou in 2021, Kyogo was a darling of the Hoops support across his three-and-a-half years in Hoops.

He departed the club a year ago, making a big-money move to Stade Rennais in France… it’s fair to say that this move didn’t work out.

As a result, he headed to the Championship in a surprise move to link-up with ex-Celtic teammate Tomoki Iwata at Birmingham City in January… but he is yet to score a league goal across 23 appearances for the Blues.

So what now? A sensational return to Celtic, perhaps?

Kyogo Furuhashi reported to be heading back to Celtic on loan

According to the Scottish Sun, Kyogo looks set to be heading back to Celtic Park on loan.

The report also mentions that Martin O’Neill is keen for the move to be completed as quickly as possible, with discussions taking place over the last 24 hours.

If the move is complete, it will mark yet another sensational return at a club who’ve been handing out a fair few second spells of late.

From Jota, to Kieran Tierney, to Brendan Rodgers… the list goes on.

It was, of course, Kyogo’s move to France that opened the door for Jota to return to the club last January. The Portuguese winger has been injured since May.

Kyogo scored 85 goals across 165 appearances at Celtic, establishing himself as a big-game player. Aged 30, there is no reason why he can’t rediscover that form in Hoops.

The length of the loan deal is yet to be revealed – nor is the possibility of a buy option in the deal.

All we know, for now, that a move that has been quietly whispered about for a while now is now closer than ever to become a reality.

And with a three-way title race in the offing, it’s certainly news that won’t be welcome at Tynecastle or Ibrox.
