Brendan Rodgers has given an update on the Celtic transfer situation with three-and-a-half weeks of the window to go.

The Celtic boss was in front of the media on Wednesday ahead of this weekend’s trip to Aberdeen.

A fair chunk of Rodgers‘ press conference was spent answering questions about potential transfer targets, including Gustaf Lagerbielke and Kieran Tierney.

“No,” the Hoops boss said when asked if he could say anything about links to Lagerbielke. (Celtic YouTube)

“I’ve got nothing to add. There’s probably a few other names that will be mixed in. If I speak about every one then we might be here for a little while.

“There are other areas I would like to improve on so that we are set. I’m really pleased with the guys that I inherited. But naturally I would want to strengthen before the window shuts in order to play the number of games we have to play and have the strongest squad we possibly can.”

Strangely enough, Rodgers was then asked directly about Tierney. Celtic haven’t actually been credited with an interest in the Arsenal full-back, but it was reported in June that Tierney would consider a loan move back to the Hoops.

“I don’t speak on what ifs. There’s speculation about many players. Naturally there’s an association with Kieran because of his past here.

“But there’s nothing to add to that. I want to add to the squad and if we can strengthen that over the coming weeks I’ll be happy with that.”

So some interesting remarks from Rodgers. Despite not giving much away, he was pretty open to the questions from the journalists.

Lagerbielke seems like a genuine option for the club, and a deal that we could see completed over the next week or so.

Tierney seems like a much more ambitious shout, but stranger things have happened.

Regardless, Rodgers has been consistent in saying that he wants to improve the squad before the September 1 deadline. Time is starting to tick down a little bit, so we should probably charge on with recruitment.
