Lanus make overnight Alexandro Bernabei statement; Celtic announcement imminent
Argentinian side Lanus have confirmed that left-back Alexandro Bernabei has completed his move to Celtic.
Speculation has been building over the last few weeks surrounding a potential new left-sided defender, and the 21-year-old appeared to be the man the club were chasing.
Reports from Bernabei’s homeland stated that the full-back’s move to Celtic was all but complete and that he would be signing a five-year deal with the Hoops.
The Celtic support has patiently been awaiting an announcement from the club, officially confirming Ange Postecoglou’s third signing of the transfer window.
That announcement came in a surprise fashion late last night, with fans buzzing to wake up to some brilliant transfer news.
The left-back’s current club Lanus posted a statement at 3 am GMT time, confirming that Bernabei had now completed his transfer move to Parkhead.
Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has been keen to add competition for Greg Taylor, who enjoyed a strong season last campaign, and the club were linked to several moves earlier in the window,
The most notable being Hammarby full-back Mohanad Jeahze. Reports in Scotland went as far as to state that the 25-year-old was close to being the former Socceroos manager’s first signing of the window.
However, Bernabei was the man the club pursued, and the Argentine youth internationalist will now become the first player from his country to pull on Celtics green and white Hoops.
Ange Postecoglou continues his early work in the transfer window.
With pre-season still to officially kick start, and the squad heading to Austria at the beginning of next week, Ange Postecoglou is continuing to complete some impressive business early in the window.
The 56-year-old admitted that he was keen to see the Bhoys have as much business done in time for the pre-season return, and he has followed up on that promise.
Not only is Postecoglou doing some brilliant work with the incomings, but he is also getting some deadwood out of the club.
We still await an announcement from Celtic confirming Bernabei’s move, which is expected to come later today.
However, we now know that the left-back is officially a Celtic player and here in perfect time for the Hoops’ pre-season camp next month.
