Celtic are lining up a busy deadline day to cap off the summer transfer window in style with multiple players potentially arriving.

Arne Engels is set to complete an £11m move to Celtic from Bundesliga side Augsburg with a medical booked to be completed today. Personal terms on a four-year deal are said to have been agreed.

But the fun won’t stop there with Celtic also chasing another midfield signing alongside strengthening the centre-back position.

Auston Trusty is the big target in the backline and Celtic are also closing in on his permanent transfer – but there are still hurdles to overcome.

Celtic get the ball rolling on permits and paperwork

The Daily Record reports that Celtic’s third bid for the United States international defender was accepted by Sheffield United on Thursday, totalling £6m.

He was due to complete his medical last night before Celtic the ball rolling on key paperwork early today. Personal terms have been agreed on a five-year contract, it’s said, but that’s not the main issue.

The report states there’ll be a late rush to get a visa sorted in time with the Bhoys hoping it can be fast-tracked before the 11pm deadline.

Fans will have their fingers crossed that there are no issues. Celtic badly need a defender and Trusty has become Brendan Rodgers’ main target.

Auston Trusty’s career to date ahead of Celtic move

Trusty’s breakthrough came in Major League Soccer where he made over 60 appearances for both Colorado Rapids and Philadelphia Union before sealing a switch to Arsenal.

The Gunners ended up loaning him to Birmingham City in the English Championship. He won their Player of the Year award after 48 appearances, then destined for a bigger move.

That impressive 2022/23 campaign caught the eye of the then newly-promoted Sheffield United, who spent a significant fee on him and made him a mainstay of their Premier League season.

Now he’s set to play alongside international teammate Cameron Carter-Vickers as a left-sided centre-back, competing with Liam Scales for a starting spot.
