There are plenty of ex-Celtic players in the English Championship at the moment.

At Birmingham City alone, Kyogo Furuhashi, Tomoki Iwata and Patrick Roberts are playing under ex-Hoops assistant Chris Davies.

It’s a market that Celtic are familiar with through recent signings such as Auston Trusty and Adam Idah.

And with the January transfer window underway, there is talk of Birmingham and Norwich City looking to sign Yang Hyun-Jun.

But another ex-Celtic winger – who made way for Yang – could also be heading to the English second tier.

Ex-Celtic man Liel Abada draws interest from English Championship clubs

Liel Abada was still a teenager when he became one of Ange Postecoglou’s first signings in 2021 – he went on to put up solid numbers over two-and-a-half years in Glasgow.

Shortly into Brendan Rodgers’ tenure, he made the move to Charlotte FC in MLS, where he has spent the last two years.

He is reportedly now set for a move in January, with Championship clubs circling.

And according to Sky Sports News, Swansea City and Coventry City are seeking loan moves for the 24-year-old winger.

A move to Swansea could see him link up with Adam Idah, who moved to South Wales for £7 million in the summer.

Frank Lampard’s Coventry are currently sitting at the top of the Championship, eight points clear of Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town.

Abada plays under former Aston Villa boss Dean Smith in Charlotte. They finished seventh in the regular season in 2025, with the winger scoring five goals.

Ahead of the play-offs this year however, he had fallen out of the starting XI.

Liel Abada on life after Celtic

Speaking on his post-Celtic career last month, Abada spoke about MLS and the support he had received after a ‘tough year’ in Glasgow.

He said via The Herald: “I had like a tough year last season, but I’m starting to feel really good. I’m really happy to be here.

“I’ve had so much support from the staff, from the coaches, from players, from the fans, and you know, I feel like it’s home here so it’s a really good place for me.

“The MLS is a really good league with really good players. In Israel we have so many good talents, young players, and I think it would be good for them, but you know, I cannot control who comes here or not.”
