Loan deal seems like the best move for Ralston if he’s not going to play

Celtic’s Anthony Ralston is in a bit of an unfortunate situation at the moment. He is the only right-back in the Hoops squad.

However, he was not selected in that position for either game against Sarajevo in the Champions League qualifiers. Neil Lennon elected to play Kristoffer Ajer at right-back in those games instead.

Ralston’s situation could be further complicated by the fact that the Hoops are looking to sign right-backs. Neil Lennon recently confirmed that the Hoops want to buy two players for that position.

One of them seems to be Hatem Abd Elhamed, who looks to be on the verge of joining the Hoops from Hapoel Be’er Sheva.

He is normally a centre-back, but can play at right-back too.

Move would give player regular football

Should the Hoops sign two right-backs, then Ralston would move further down the pecking order. In that case, perhaps a loan move would be ideal for him.

A loan move would allow Ralston to play on a regular basis. It would also allow the player to prove to Neil Lennon that he deserves a shot at Celtic.

Should Ralston succeed in a loan move, it could be the kickstart to his Hoops career. Ralston will no doubt want to play football on a regular basis. That seems unlikely to happen at Celtic. Therefore, a loan move is best for all parties.
