Mark Guidi has revisited Celtic’s interest in Tawanda Maswanhise.

The Motherwell forward is currently the top scorer in the Scottish Premiership, and has 22 goals to his name in all competitions this season.

Martin O’Neill and Mark Fotheringham were seen watching the Steelmen at Fir Park in January, though the motives of their visit are unknown.

You wouldn’t be surprised at all if Maswanhise was the subject, and Guidi’s comments back this up.

Mark Guidi says ‘no doubt’ over Martin O’Neill’s Tawanda Maswanhise stance

On the Go Radio Football Show, Barry Ferguson was discussing Maswanhise, before Guidi weighed in: “Yeah, absolutely, he’s not a gamble.

“He’s got blistering pace. Over seven, eight, nine yards… you can’t coach that. That’s not something that you can put in.

“What you need to add to his game is that little bit of composure in front of goal. You can see the classic example of the miss he had at Tynecastle, where you either, at least, hit the target, or you square it to a teammate.

“That said, he’s scored more than 20 goals! So he’s still got composure. He [can] just add that wee bit to his game.

“In terms of Celtic, I think Martin O’Neill would’ve signed him in January, there’s no doubt, because he’d be an asset.

“He’d have added something to Celtic, and again, back to the question, who’s going to be in charge of Celtic? Who’s going to be the manager? You’re having a sporting director, whatever.

“I’d imagine you’re not getting Maswanhise for anything less than £3.5 million, so are you going to sanction that chunk of your transfer budget when you don’t know who the manager is?”

As we speak, the manager could be Jens Berthel Askou – you wouldn’t bet against both being at Celtic Park next season.

Motherwell teammate Elijah Just is also linked with Celtic. We could even make it a hat-trick…

Other SPFL players linked with Celtic in January

Celtic enquired about Kieron Bowie early in January, in a search for a striker which lasted until the 20th of the month.

Bowie has now completed a move to Hellas Verona, reportedly worth up to £7 million, joining a long line of Scottish players moving to Serie A.

Celtic were also linked with Josh Mulligan, Bowie’s ex-teammate at Hibs. They face stiff competition for the 23-year-old, with Premier League clubs keen.

Kilmarnock midfielder David Watson is another SPFL player with reported interest from Celtic and Italy.
