Transfer reports linking Mat Ryan with a move to Celtic are already going down well with some online supporters.

Postecoglou has worked with Ryan extensively before, handing the goalkeeper many of his 59 caps including at major tournaments.

Celtic have struggled to find a consistent number one since the assured Fraser Forster returned to Southampton.

Any trust we had in our goalkeepers went with him out the door. Hopes were high for Vasilis Barkas but it rapidly became clear he wasn’t quite ready for the pressures of life at Celtic. Neither Scott Bain nor Conor Hazard were any more convincing.

Mat Ryan can be the man for Celtic under Postecoglou

I’m not against Barkas getting another opportunity at Celtic. However, I do think Postecoglou bringing in his own trusted shot-stopper would be a good thing for the squad, the team and the defence.

That was part of the problem last season. You got the impression that Neil Lennon didn’t really fancy any of his goalkeepers. Likewise, none of them seemed particularly happy with him.

At least Ryan would have the full faith of our new boss. That could be crucial in ensuring he has the confidence to perform for the Hoops. Goalkeeping is a confidence game, so we’re told.

With experience in the Premier League and a number of European leagues, you’d expect him to have the readiness to compete in the Scottish Premiership.

Time will tell whether the move comes off. At the very least, reports have caught the attention of Celtic fans.
