Mat Ryan has opened the door for Celtic; Postecoglou should be all over it
In perhaps the most exciting piece of Celtic news in recent times, Mat Ryan certainly sounded open to joining up with Ange Postecoglou.
The Australian international was talking on Fox Sports earlier this week and said the following:
“Obviously, given the relationship between Ange and I in the past, in the national team, I think there’s a lot of people putting two and two together. It’s interesting, that move may come about.
“I’m not really sure what’s going, just waiting and seeing. And trying to give the diplomatic answer.”
Celtic were first linked with Ryan last month. Sky Sports stated that Postecoglou wanted to link up with his former Australia number one. Since then, however, reports from Spain have had him set on a move to Real Sociedad [Mundo Deportivo].
No final decision made by Mat Ryan; time is now for Celtic to make move
Despite the speculation, it’s clear the experienced stopper hasn’t made his mind up on his future. Even if an offer is on the table from Sociedad, it hasn’t been accepted as of yet.

And with Ryan clearly open to working under Postecoglou again, Celtic would be crazy not to make a move. It’s clear given the contest of Ryan’s comments that there’s nothing official been launched by the Hoops as of yet.
Yet Ryan would immediately come into the club and be our most experienced goalkeeper. To date, he’s racked up 124 EPL appearances and as many as 58 outings at international level. Not to mention the fact he’s been at a World Cup and has shone in Australia and Belgium too [Transfermarkt].
Then again, what Ryan continues to miss from that CV are medals. One A-League title to his name as well as an Asian and Belgian cup surely won’t satisfy him. At Celtic, he can tick off that final box of medals and sustained European football.
And it appears the fans are well up for this one too. They’ve been reacting to his comments on Fox Sports and have urged the club to move now:
