Matt O’Riley latest as another Premier League club show interest in Celtic midfielder

The Matt O’Riley transfer saga continues as the Celtic midfielder attracts the attention of yet another English Premier League side.

The Danish international has been the subject of much speculation this summer as some of Europe’s top clubs look to potentially add O’Riley to their squads.

With Atletico Madrid reportedly still showing interest, it seems the La Liga side will need to prepare for some healthy competition from south of the border.

After Southampton showed their interest earlier this week, that move hit the buffers after O’Riley’s salary demands were higher than what The Saints offered.

And it seems that if Russel Martin wants the Celtic midfielder he will need to be prepared for competition from one of the rivals in England’s top tier.

Leicester City want O’Riley after £30m transfer sale

The Scottish Sun has reported that Brendan Rodgers’ old club, Leceister City, are looking at O’Riley as a replacement for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall who was sold to Chelsea this summer for £30m.

The report also claims that scouts from The Foxes, who won promotion to the top tier last season, believe the Celtic midfielder could replace the new Chelsea star’s goals and assists.

It is also suggested that The King Power Stadium side may well need to pay more than the £30m fee they got from Enzo Maresca’s side for Dewsbury-Hall.

O’Riley returned to pre-season training at Celtic just two days ago as he prepares to jet out on the pre-season tour of the USA later this month.

The Celtic supporters will be desperate for their hero to remain at the club for just one more season as the club participates in the new-look Champions League group stages.

The one positive that the Hoops support can take from the reported interest of Southampton and Leicester is that neither are involved in European football next season and the Dane may well want another crack at it with Celtic.

No doubt there will be further speculation and rumour as the transfer window rumbles on but, for now, O’Riley will be focused on getting himself fit for the new season and, hopefully, that new season will involve him wearing the green and whist Hoops.
