MLS insider Tom Bogert has revealed that Celtic’s move for Alistair Johnston is all but done after the transfer was finalized between both clubs.

The 24-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Parkhead, with a January move expected after a strong year for CF Montreal and Canada.

Johnston is currently at the World Cup out in Qatar and has featured for his nation in their opening two games of the group stages.

Unfortunately for the defender and his teammates, their time in the tournament is set to come to an end on Thursday.

Despite two positive displays against Belgium and Croatia, both games ended in defeat for Canada, who sit bottom of their group on zero points.

Their exit from the competition may have helped Celtic, though, as Ange Postecoglou aims to complete his second signing of the January window.

And the Hoops boss could be edging closer, with reports from MLS insider Tom Bogert stating that the deal is ‘all but done’.

The journalist also stated that other clubs in Europe have been interested in Johnston. But agreements have now been reached between all parties.

A further source this morning, @ManuelVeth, also reported that the ‘deal should be announced soon’, with a fee of around €4m agreed.

So now, it seems to be a case of getting the final paperwork signed before the Hoops make an official announcement of Johnston’s arrival.

Ange Postecoglou and Celtic quick off the mark as Bhoys close in on 2nd new addition.

We have not even entered December yet, and Celtic already look all set to announce their second new addition of the January window.

Ange Postecoglou and his recruitment staff have been quick off the mark, making signings that will become part of the Hoops squad from the 1st of January.

After a strong showing for Canada at the World Cup, you would imagine there was plenty of clubs interested and watching Johnston.

However, thanks to Celtic being quick to get a deal in place, the defender looks all set to become the 57-year-old’s latest recruit.

Supporters have been left delighted to see the club’s proactive response in the market, and long may it continue as we approach the official opening date of the January transfer window.

It now appears to be a case of waiting for the club’s announcement, with agreements between Celtic and Johnston’s current side in place.
