Napoli are set to offer Celtic a vast sum of money for striker Odsonne Edouard, according to a report. The Daily Mail are reporting that the Champions League qualifiers have been watching the player for two seasons, and are set to make a ‘substantial offer’ for the player.

The report goes on to claim that the Hoops value the player at £30 million, and that although Celtic are ‘braced’ for a Napoli bid in January, they would ‘postpone’ any talks between the clubs until the summer.

Speculation set to continue during season

It looks like speculation surrounding Edouard is going to continue throughout the rest of the season. It is no surprise to see teams of Napoli’s stature declare an interest in the player.

He has been excellent for Celtic, in the two years he has been at the club. He has also started to perform for his country. Scoring four goals in two games for France under-21 will get people talking.

Fans will be desperate for player to stay

Naturally Celtic fans will not want Edouard to leave. It would be a blow for fans to accept both Edouard and Kieran Tierney leaving the club so quickly, one after the other.

However, that is just the way football goes these days. If Celtic can get a sum of £30 million for a player who has rarely featured in the Champions League it would be a great piece of business by the club.

For the moment though, Edouard will be concentrating on helping the Hoops progress in the Europa League. Should he perform well against Rennes this week, the speculation about his future will no doubt intensify.
