Celtic manager Neil Lennon has defended the club in the face of criticism of the club’s summer transfer window, claiming there’s been a lot of ‘sniping’ aimed at the Hoops, The Daily Record report.
The club’s deadline day business mean that 14 first-team quality players and prospects have arrived at the club over the last few months, significantly bolstering Lennon’s options.
It was definitely needed after a number of exits at the end of last season but it’s been a healthy window all told.
At times the arrivals were slow and the recruitment team certainly took its time in delivering some targets, but Lennon has defended the way they’ve gone about their business.
As quoted by The Daily Record, the manager said: “The club is united, let’s get that right. There’s been a lot of sniping but we stayed very strong on it and composed and knew what we wanted to do.
“These things take time but the window has closed and I am every happy with the quality of the squad, the players we have brought in and the players we already had.”

Were Celtic fans too panicky this summer?
There’s no doubt that the Hoops board were under more scrutiny during this transfer window than many that have come before. However, much of the criticism had merit.
Celtic have undoubtedly done pretty well with the incoming players. However, much of it was too late to have an impact on our UEFA Champions League chances.
The response has been fantastic the Cluj defeat on and off the park, but the lack of planning still sticks out as a major failing.
Nonetheless, it’s understandable that Lennon would look to defend the club from critics and those ‘sniping’ given the current state we’re in.
The squad appears strong, we’re top of the league and we have a Europa League group to look forward to. Bring on the rest of the season.
