Neil Lennon factor for Victor Wanyama Dunfermline move laid bare as Celtic hero had major transfer options

Victor Wanyama turned heads this week when he signed for Dunfermline Athletic.

The Kenyan powerhouse, 33, still has a lot to offer but chose the Scottish Championship as his next destination following his release from Montreal CF – with his last game coming back in July, 2024.

Neil Lennon joined Dunfermline earlier this week in what was a coup of its own with the ex-Celtic manager being convinced by the owners to make the move.

And Wanyama followed the Irishman to Fife in what was an even more astonishing move for the Pars to bankroll given the midfielder’s history as one of Celtic’s most expensive sales in their history.

Neil Lennon’s Celtic connection stopped Wanyama joining QPR

The Daily Record reported recently that QPR of the EFL Championship were in the mix to sign former £12.5million Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur star Wanyama.

But it was Lennon who was able to use his experience of having worked with the big man already to seal the deal.

Wanyama is all set to meet the media at East End Park for the first time in Scotland since 2013 when he left Celtic Park for the lights of the Premier League at St Mary’s.

Timing could hardly have been any better for the Pars with both Wanyama and coach Lennon braced to go up against an old pal in Scott Brown in what could be the pair’s first match of their time at Dunfermline.

Wanyama’s old Celtic teammate sent congratulations message

They play Ayr United on Saturday afternoon with Brown ready to go head to head with his old pals.

Lennon has already issued a demand of Brown for when he arrives at Somerset Park but we at 67 Hail Hail hope it ends in a good old fashioned draw to avoid any of Celtic’s legends being upset!

Wanyama’s most famous Celtic moment was, of course, netting vs Barcelona in the famous 2-1 victory back in 2012.

And a former teammate who also played that night, Beram Kayal, wished his midfield colleague the best of luck for his Pars future on social media.
